Your Hospital. Your Community. Your Story.

Goole and District Hospital is an important part of our community, and we’re working together to ensure it remains that way.

We’re exploring how the hospital – alongside local health and care services – can do more to support people to stay healthy, independent, and cared for closer to home.

We see a bright future where local NHS services, community organisations, and voluntary groups work side by side to meet Goole’s changing health needs.

Play your part

We want to work together with communities to make the most of local health and care services – including services at Goole Hospital. To make sure we hear from as many local people as possible – from all walks of life – we are planning four ways for people to get involved:

  • Two drop-in public events
  • This short online survey
  • Meeting with existing groups in and around Goole – such as carers, community support groups, and others
  • Outreach work to involve people who don’t usually take part in this kind of conversation

You can join our  first listening event on Wednesday 28th May at the Courtyard in Goole. Drop-in anytime between 11am- 3pm. All are welcome.

What’s happening at Goole Hospital?

There are no plans to close the hospital.

But we are reviewing how to:

  • Make the best use of hospital space and staff skills
  • Improve access to outpatient and diagnostic services
  • Offer more care in the community, including at home
  • Plan for investment in the site and facilities

Read our latest blog post to find out more.

What areas are being looked at?

  • Keeping the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) open
  • Enhancing outpatient and diagnostic services
  • Improving community midwifery
  • Reviewing end-of-life care to support more people at home
  • Exploring if Goole could become a centre for certain types of surgery
  • Looking at how specialist neurorehabilitation is best provided
  • Reviewing site infrastructure and future investment needs

This work will take around six months, and while that happens, services will continue as they are.

Why do people sometimes travel for treatment?

We know that travelling for care – especially when you’re unwell – can be difficult. Like most towns in our region, Goole doesn’t see enough people with some complex conditions to safely and cost effectively offer very specialist services here.

That’s why, for care like cancer treatment or emergency surgery, you will be asked to go to another hospital that sees more patients with the same condition as you – where doctors and nurses can safely maintain their skills.

We know travel isn’t always easy. So we’re working to:

  • Offer appointment times that help with transport and parking
  • Understand the impact travel has on families
  • Expand what can safely and cost effectively be delivered locally

That’s why your feedback matters – even when we can’t offer everything in every town, we can always listen and improve.
